Central to my work is the portrait, both human and animal. Portraiture is a vehicle to explore an individual physically and psychologically. I also use it as an alter ego, for self expression, to examine mythological themes and to engage with art history. Painting subjects have included musicians, friends and the animals in my life. My drawing practice involves working from the figure model using a variety of media, such as silverpoint, pastel, and scratchboard. In portraying people and animals, detail is used to convey the emotional and timeless qualities of my subject.
